Recipe – Potato Moong Rotla (Gujarat/Rajasthan)

Moong And Potato Rotla

2nd recipe!! This one’s from the Gujarat/Rajasthan region of India.


Flour – 2 cups
4 green chillies – minced
Medium potatoes – 2
1 piece ginger – minced
Moong dal – ½ cup
Coriander leaf – Handful, sliced
Salt – To taste
Lime juice – to taste (optional)

Boil the Moong dal until it turns soft, and allow it to dry. Boil, peel and mash potatoes.

Mix dal, potatoes, chillies, ginger, coriander, and salt. You can also add the lime juice to the mixture if you want. I didn’t have lemons at home, so i skipped that.

Mix salt with the flour and knead it to make dough.

Roll the dough into small puris. Take one puri, cover evenly with 1 tblsp. of filling, and cover with another puri. Seal and pinch the edges of the puris together.

Sprinkle a little dry flour on top, and carefully roll out into a bigger size. Shallow fry to a golden brown colour. Serve hot after liberally applying ghee or butter.
